February is Black History Month, a time to commemorate the contributions
of African Americans in so many fields such as science, politics, law and
sports. African Americans have also been trendsetters in fashion, music and
hair. With that said, let’s have a look at 5 glorious black hairstyles.
Curly Top Knot
A top knot is easy to tie and wear as it is both convenient and stylish.
Adding some texture to your hair before making the updo will give this
hairstyle a boost that makes it look casual yet put-together. To get the most
of it, make sure your hair has been well moisturised and use a styling product
to define your curls. However, fluffy brushed hair also looks amazing in a top
knot.

Double Buns
This is a take on the curly top knot that has become a staple festival
hairstyle. It is quick and gives your face an instant youthfulness lift. Plus,
it looks gorgeous on curly hair because of its texture and volume.

Side Part
Parting your hair differently is one of the simplest ways to switch up
your look. You can go for the central parting or play around with putting most
of your hair to the left or to the right. This works well for every hair length
- from super long to shaved on the side.

Afro Pixie
This is a splendid short hairstyle that can be worn in a variety of
ways, from symmetrical to side bangs. It requires little maintenance and draws
attention to the face to highlight the bone structure, and alluring eyes and
lips. The pixie cut is also a way to give your hair a break and improve its
health as it works great with natural
curls and dries out quickly, so there’s
no need for heat-styling.

Braids
At around 25 thousand years the Venus of Willendorf is one of the oldest
surviving works of art, that some consider as the earliest evidence of braided
hairstyles. As braids are so versatile, they have managed to stay “in fashion”
for millennia. You can spend hours scrolling down through different hairstyles
of very thin to thick braids and intricate designs. Personally, I love how
braids look in a high ponytail.

These are just five of so many hairstyles that help you rock your
natural black hair. No matter what you go for, always be mindful of keeping your hair in good
condition as this will determine how full and bouncy it’d
be.
