First of all, I would like to express how grateful I am to have made it to 2020 as many would have wanted to but because of various circumstances were not able to.

I am also happy that you get to continue with this blogging journey with me. Today, I would like to talk about lessons I have learnt, my goals and of course, my pleated skirt outfit, hence the title "Happy New Year: Lessons, Goals, A Pleated Skirt Outfit."

A Few Lessons From 2019 and My New Goals

1. Life is short, so make the most of the time you have
It took me losing a friend just three weeks ago for that point to hit home. Never had I lost a friend and he was young. Truth is, I still sometimes think he's out there somewhere but well, he isn't. So my goal this year is to make the most of the time I have with my family and friends.

2. Friendship is determined not by how long you have known someone, rather the quality of the relationship you have with someone
Last year, due to lots of other occurrences, mostly good ones, I realize that you can make some really good friends even now. So my goal is to value everyone I meet because you do not know who will end up being that great friend to you.

3. Your survival is highly dependent on you
I had to leave a job that honestly did not pay me badly for a couple of reasons and if you have ever been in that situation, you know that it simply isn't easy when you have no plan B. However, somehow I was able to survive working on Freelance basis without the conventional 9-5. All I did was believe in myself. So my goal this year is to just trust in myself even more because honestly there is so much I can achieve, it only starts with the self belief.

4. Just start
Sometimes we fail to get to our maximum potential or to achieve what we actually can because of fear. However, I have learnt so much in the past year that taking a leap of faith and failing is better than never trying anything in the first place. Who knows, you might end up more successful than you think. So my goal is to give more things a try and to be less scared of failing.

5. Include God in all your plans
Last year I learnt that as human beings, we go out of our way to plan for so much, but all that is in vain if we do not include God. So my goal this year is to keep in mind that I can do it, but only with God by my side. I've always known that but it couldn't be emphasized more you know.

6. Accept God's will no matter what it is
Allow me to go back to my friend's untimely passing. I had the hardest time accepting it. I felt terrible especially because at the start of 2019 he had so much hope for the year, was the first to wish me a happy new year and even told me how it was going to be his year. AT the time, I just couldn't understand why it had to happen. However, I remembered they say He knows best.
It happens even when we go through challenges that our faith is tested. We often find ourselves full of regret, anger, hopelessness and overwhelmed. So my goal this year is to learn to accept God's will no matter what, because He is actually perfect and I am not.

I could go on and on but because i don't want this post to be too long, I will have a better presentation in a YouTube video I plan on doing. So please click here to subscribe to my channel.

So on to the outfit. I once, not too long ago expressed my love for a pleated skirt outfit. I really loved that post as well and ever since then, I have increased my stock of them.

I bought this skirt from a store in Nairobi and had to tailor it to fit me. I just love it so much because of the color and vibrant print on it.

I love pleated skirts because they are very classic and classy as you can see here.

The fact that this is in a nice midi length attracted me even more because I am the biggest fan of midi skirts. I just styled it with a pair of boots. Lace up ones.
I wanted to keep the whole look colorful so I wore a yellow sweater with it and a layered necklace. I also went for some golden earrings.

  3. I love the pattern on that skirt, and I totally agree with you that the amount of time doesn't directly correlate to the quality of the relationship. I've met some of my best friends in college and have only known them for about 6 months which is crazy to me.

  4. Happy New Year, beautiful! We have a similar mindset when it comes to viewing the new year, as I mentioned some of what you have in my recent post, too. I’m sorry for your loss. I know the feeling of losing someone so unexpectedly and sometimes feeling as though they’re still alive because it all happened so fast that you just couldn’t mentally grasp it. Aside from this, I love your skirt, it looks so good on you and I love the way you’ve styled it. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great week!

  6. I love what you mentioned about "just starting" and letting go of the fear. A lot of times, our procrastination comes from self-doubt and we need to work on that. 2020 will be the year of confidence!
